Stanley Ralph Hickle was born on July 18, 1947, in Hanna, Alberta, to Ralph and Luelle Hickle. He spent most of his life on the family ranch in Roselynn, Alberta, before retiring to Lethbridge in 2016. In his youth, Stan attended Olds College, where he met his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Trish). He graduated as an agricultural mechanic and later enrolled in a heavy-duty mechanic program at SAIT. This education served him well in the oil and gas industry, at the local coal mine, Special Areas and throughout his life in farming and ranching. In later years, Stan worked as a fuel delivery driver for UFA, and he also became the go-to troubleshooter for his grandchildren.
Family meant everything to Stan, and he cherished the time spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. During a midlife crisis, he developed a passion for travel and motorbiking. Any opportunity for a road trip was seized, as he travelled from one end of Canada to the other and ventured south to Mexico and as far north as Alaska. Stan made friends wherever he went and always took the time to stop and visit along the way.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARTHA’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. with Father William Monis and Father Roque Pereira concelebrating.
Stan will be laid to rest in Claresholm Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities – Calgary (rmhcalberta.org) or to a charity of one’s choice.
