Salmon, Melvin

January 4, 1938

October 9, 2025

Date of Service: October 16, 2025

MELVIN THOMAS SALMON beloved husband of the late Patricia Salmon (née Coppieters) passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the Raymond Health Centre at the age of 87.

Melvin was predeceased by his wife Patricia “Pat”, his parents, sister Thelma, brothers Harold and Ronnie and granddaughter Hayley.

Melvin “Mel” was born to Florence “Flossie” and Heber “Shrimp” Salmon, the youngest of four children, on January 4, 1938, at the Galt Hospital in Lethbridge, AB. He was raised on the family farm in the Stewart siding district later moving to Lethbridge with his parents and brother Ronnie. On July 2, 1960, he married Patricia Coppieters from Raymond. They made their home in Lethbridge, raising their four children and welcoming grandchildren. Melvin started his own earth moving business, Mel Salmon Construction which he and Pat ran for 28 years. After selling the business Mel and Pat took time to travel but his retirement was short lived when he began working for the City of Lethbridge where he stayed for 8 years then back to his first love, land leveling at Felger Farms.

In 2002 Pat and Mel moved to Raymond and enjoyed the small-town life. Never one to be idle he soon became known in town as the “Lawn mower Guy” – fixing anything from snowblowers, power washers, generators, edgers, rototillers, ride on and push mowers.

Mel will be lovingly remembered by his children; Lorelei Rose, Sharon (Stewart) Thompson, Todd (Kathy) Salmon, Nancy Churchill; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

We would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff at the Raymond Health Centre as well as homecare staff and the many friends and neighbors in Raymond that cared for him over the years. A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 11:00 A.M.

Mel will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (heartandstroke.ca).
