Janet was born in Detroit, Michigan, one month before the stock market crash of 1929. Shortly after, the family returned to Scotland, where they lived until moving to Corby, England, where she met Sam. She and Sam were married on New Year’s Eve in 1952 and shortly after, immigrated to Lethbridge.
Janet worked in a doctor’s office until they adopted Max, and then Chris. In 1968, she went back to work as a service coordinator in the municipal hospital.
Janet’s mother, Jean, came to live with the family in 1970. In 1972, the family moved to Wetaskiwin and in 1976, to Vegreville, where she worked in the town office until she retired in 1991. At that time, she and Sam returned to Lethbridge until her passing.
Janet had a remarkable ability to overcome illness by surviving TB as a child and two bouts of cancer in her 80’s.
Janet was an amazing mother to both Max and Chris and grandmother to Kody and Sammy. She would end up baking with all the kids in the neighbourhood, all of whom told her she should give Granny lessons.
Janet passed during the harvest full moon, which feels appropriate considering her great love of wolves.
A Celebration of Janet’s life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 9:00 A.M. with Reverend Daniel Surya officiating. The Celebration will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Janet’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
