Born in Calgary, Fred was the middle child in a family of five. At an early age, Fred displayed athletic gifts in fastball and hockey. His hockey playing ability was such that he played Junior A Hockey for the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Edmonton Oil Kings. Fred fulfilled another lifelong dream to raise horses, having once successfully bred a colt from an Appaloosa mare. In his later years, he enjoyed playing golf at Land O’ Lakes Golf Club in Coaldale, where he scored a hole-in-one in 2010.
Above all, family was everything to Fred, the most important thing in his life. Fred is survived by his wife, Marilynn; his daughters, Coleen (David) Kato, and Katherine Gardner; and son, Robert. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristin (Douglas) Lammie and Kimberley (Roger) Dang and by his great-grandsons, Oliver Dang and Nathan Lammie.
Arrangements will be announced once completed.
