DOUGLAS “DOUG” JAMES SPURGEON, of Lethbridge, AB, passed away at home on Thursday, September, 25, 2025 at the age of 58 years.

Doug is the loving son of Dave and Nell Spurgeon of Magrath, father to Jenni Spurgeon of Lethbridge, Stephani Spurgeon of Lethbridge, and Nylla (William) Moroziuk of Edmonton; grandfather to Jeremiah “JJ”, Riley, David, Charlie, and Cale; and brother to Daniel Spurgeon and Melody Watson.

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Sheldon Watson; grandparents: Barney and Hilda Dyck, and John and Florence Spurgeon; and aunts and uncles: Leeroy Dyck, John Dyck, Rose Whiteford, and Martin Spurgeon.

Doug was born in Medicine Hat and spent the majority of his childhood in Cardston, Alberta. He grew up loving sports and the outdoors. Doug played hockey and baseball as a child. He became an avid fisherman early on and remained so throughout his life. He played the drums as a boy and later joined his father in a band, playing at the local legion and weddings. He developed a passion for the guitar, writing music and lyrics. He was also a talented artist in his own right.

Doug loved his family, his daughters and his grandchildren, nephews and nieces, with an unforced passion. He was like a big brother to many. Doug gave with his heart, helping others and carrying the burden when he could.

He had a love for Jesus and didn’t shy away from sharing his beliefs with anyone. He knew his truth and would stand by it.

Doug rests in heaven now, in the arms of his savior. No more pain, no more suffering; only Peace and serenity.

A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at CITY LIGHT CHURCH, 4101 – 20 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Doug Shimoda officiating. The Celebration will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Doug’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
